The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree provides training and education with the objective of producing graduates with the capacity to conduct research independently at a high level of originality and quality.
A PhD candidate will uncover new knowledge either by the discovery of new facts, the formulation of theories or the innovative re-interpretation of known data and established ideas.
The School of Law is an integral part of the University. We are committed to, and have a reputation for excellence in research, teaching and community engagement at the local, national and international levels.
Our approach to legal education also emphasises social justice and professional practice, as we support our graduates to serve in their communities. As one example, we run the Parramatta Community Justice Clinic, located in the Parramatta Justice District, which provides students with the opportunity to get real world experience under the supervision of qualified solicitors. The Law School places great emphasis on the acquisition of legal knowledge and skills, including oral presentations moot courts, negotiations, interview skills and drafting work. Our students have had success in many national and international mooting and negotiation competitions, coached by Western Sydney Law School academics.
