As new technologies for the energy sector develop, students will be equipped to adapt and evolve alongside industry changes. The breadth and depth covered through interdisciplinary collaborations within the faculty offers an opportunity to gain more in-depth technical knowledge and skills to tackle the current challenges and opportunities that come with an uptake of renewable energy and distributed renewable energy in microgrids.
Recent advances in renewable energy technologies are driving the energy industry to transition, both on a national and global scale. This includes new and exciting job opportunities. The Master of Renewable and Future Energy (MRFE), solves a critical need to provide engineering professionals with relevant renewable energy skills for a ripe market. Renewable energy expertise cuts across many disciplines, including; marine renewable, biomass, geothermal, photovoltaics, electrical vehicles, as well as microgrids. Supporting this research is a growing trend in the adoption of renewables in WA for remote and small communities, especially in microgrid and smart-grid technology. To be considered for admission to this course an applicant must have— (a) a UWA Master of Professional Engineering or a Bachelor of Engineering, or an equivalent qualification, as recognised by UWA; and (b) the equivalent of a UWA weighted average mark of at least 50 per cent; and (c) successfully completed prior tertiary study in electrical and electronic engineering, chemical engineering, or mechanical engineering, or in a related cognate discipline as recognised by UWA.
