If you like working with machinery, enjoy solving mechanical problems and are good with your hands, check out Saskatchewan Polytechnic’s Industrial Mechanics program. You’ll get the basic knowledge and skills you need to install, repair, overhaul and maintain stationary, industrial machinery and mechanical equipment.
Demand for industrial mechanics—also called millwrights—is high across western Canada. Oil & gas and mining are big employers, but there’s also demand in manufacturing, milling, power generation and chemical plants.
Industrial Mechanics is a one-year certificate program offered at Saskatchewan Polytechnic Prince Albert campus, Regina campus and Saskatoon campus. Working in well-equipped shops with highly qualified instructors, you’ll get practical, hands-on training in:
basic math, drafting and blueprint reading
basic welding, fabrication and installation
conveyance systems, pumps and pipe fitting
mechanical components
preventative maintenance
using tools of the trade

Saskatchewan Polytechnic Industrial Mechanics graduates work in many different industries: oil and gas, mining, milling, manufacturing, power generation and processing. Canadian Test of English for Scholars and Trainees (CanTEST): Minimum score of 4.5 in each of listening and reading, a minimum score of 4.0 in speaking, and a minimum score of 4.0 in writing
Canadian Academic English Language Assessment (CAEL CE and Online): Minimum score of 60 with a minimum score of 50 in each component. (CE and Online accepted).
University of Cambridge Assessment English C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency: Minimum grade of C1
Pearson Test of English Academic (PTEA) - A minimum score of 63 with minimum component scores of 50.
Duolingo English Test: A minimum overall score of 105 on the online Duolingo English Test as the equivalent to the minimum overall IELTS score of 6.5
International Baccalaureate (IB) English A1 or A2: Successful completion of the International Baccalaureate Diploma, including higher level English with a minimum grade of 4
