Politics is a study of conflict among competing interests and how they achieve compromise and cooperation; it is a source of conflict in the world and also a mode of activity seeking to resolve strife and create better societies.

The comprehensive stream of the M.A. consists of coursework, a research paper, two written comprehensive exams and an oral comprehensive exam. The thesis stream consists of coursework, a thesis and an oral examination.
