The goal of the Programme is to foster high-level professionals who can meet the needs of the country's economic, social and scientific development, with a strong sense of social responsibility and a high degree of innovation. The programme aims to cultivate high level talents, with a broad knowledge based in biology and chemistry, and the theories, knowledge, and experimental techniques in the modern interdisciplinary fields, who are able to conduct scientific research independently and obtain innovative research results.
The scholars under the chemistry discipline have rich experiences across domestic and oversea biotech companies as well as universities. The major research fields include food chemistry, purification and characterization of protein/bioactive peptides, food safety techniques and food safety systems, interrelationship of food functional components with free radicals in human body, toxicological studies, safety assessment of the chemicals used in food industry, biosynthesis of microbial biotoxins and their use as pharmaceuticals.
The programme is equipped with comprehensive research facilities such as UPLC-TSQ, GC-MS, headspace gas-phase Chromatography (GC-FID), High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), Inductively Coupled Plasma-Atomic Emission Spectroscopy (ICP-OES), and Protein Purification Systems, which provide strong foundation to support scientific research.
