WHAT IS BME?
Biomedical engineering is an interdisciplinary study in which biomedical and engineering sciences are applied innovatively to solve health and medical problems for the benefit of mankind. There is a growing worldwide recognition that biomedical engineering will have an enormous impact on the upcoming improvement of health services and the emergence of new industries of biomedical-related products. Biomedical engineers will play key roles in designing innovative medical instruments and sensors, deploying the emerging infrastructure for health informatics, creating new biomaterials, and developing new medical biotechnologies.

Career prospects
Our graduates pursue various BME related careers in engineering and product support, marketing and technical sale, laboratory and research, etc. They are hired in private industries including local and international companies, as well as public organizations like hospitals, government departments (e.g. EMSD), and other government-funded institutions. Our graduates are also sought by non-BME related companies, likely due to their interdisciplinary preparation and generic competence. A relative large percentage of our graduates pursue further studies both local and overseas. Most of them go deeper in a specific biomedical engineering area or some other related areas in engineering or science. Some go for other complementary study, including business administration, medicine, and law.
