South East Technological University (SETU)

The certificate in Preparation for Higher Education provides you with the fundamental knowledge and skills to progress into higher education. The course offers a high level of English language tuition and also provides a strong foundation in mathematics and IT together with tuition in a discipline area you are particularly interested in such as science, engineering, computing or business.

These modules will allow you to make an informed choice as to your degree options and will provide a route into many of the degree programmes offered here at SETU Carlow. The course is placed on the Irish National Framework of Qualifications.

Taking a preparation course at SETU Carlow will allow you to commence your degree course the following year with greater confidence as you will have settled into Ireland and into Carlow and will have experienced the supportive environment we provide.

The course lasts for one academic year and commences in September. The modules are English for Professional Communication, Information Technology, Learning to Learn, Introductory Maths and modules from Management, Engineering Science or Computer Systems.
