Media & Creative Industries covers current issues in organisation, policies, production, management, marketing and distribution of media companies and creative industries. Music, movies, TV programmes, social media, magazines, books, games, blogs, apps, advertisements, commercials, brand logos. People are in contact with products of the media and creative industries all the time. The industries creating and disseminating these products are not just economically increasingly important; they also have a wide-ranging cultural impact. The media and creative industries have greatly transformed in recent years, due to digitalisation, internationalisation, and economies of scale, but also under the influence of socio-cultural, political and economic developments.

The Media & Creative Industries programme covers current issues in organisation, policies, production, management, marketing and distribution of media companies and creative industries, paying due attention to the impact of digitalization and digital media and the role of audiences.

While the programme focuses on the workings of the media and creative industries, it also addresses the cultural significance of the media and creative industries for society.

The programme meets the growing demand for academically trained media and creative industry experts who are able to respond effectively and inventively to changing conditions, complex issues, and new opportunities for media and creative enterprises.

Programme features

The curriculum is small-scale, intensive and interactive. Seminars, workshops, field trips and guest lectures provide a varied and challenging programme. Much attention is given to academic skills: you learn to present, debate, write and analyse. You receive support from an enthusiastic team of international lecturers. Your own input is valued and counts as part of your assessment. In addition, you can expect intensive, individual guidance when writing your master thesis.

Media & Creative Industries graduates are widely employable professionals with excellent career opportunities. You will be up for a variety of management, marketing, consultancy, communication and public relations positions in the media and creative industries and beyond. The Media & Creative Industries programme also offers a strong foundation if you aim to start your own creative business, carry out media and market research, or pursue a career in media production or policy making.

  • You must hold a university Bachelor's degree in the social sciences or the humanities;
  • You must have basic knowledge of the field of media and communication and social scientific research methods;
  • TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) with a minimum overall score of 100 in the internet based test, 250 in the computer-based test or 600 in the paper test.
  • IELTS (International English Language Testing System) with a minimum score of 7.0
  • CAE (Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English): grade B
  • CPE (Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English): grade A or B
