The One Health concept recognizes that health of people is connected to (the health of) animals and the environment and vice versa. The One Health approach in research involves interdisciplinary research by collaborations between physicians, veterinarians, epidemiologists, microbiologists and ecologists, to monitor, study, evaluate, model and control public health threats. This is realized by studying how diseases spread among people, animals, and the environment. One Health is not a new concept, but it has become more important in recent years.
