How do you shape young minds to think out of the box? How do you teach them to read and write well? Take a peek into the world of little tots to understand what works best for them, and that’s what the Diploma in Child Psychology & Early Education (CPEE) is designed to do!

A unique diploma, CPEE focuses on both developmental psychology and the learning needs of young children. You will pick up teaching techniques and learn how to design an early childhood curriculum.

Right from the first year, you will go on a practicum programme to gain practical experience at pre-schools and early intervention centres. You will also cover core modules such as Developmental Psychology & Learning, Children’s Health & Socio-emotional Well-being and Perspectives in Early Education.

In the second year of your studies, you will continue with the practicum while picking up skills and knowledge in curriculum planning and design. You will also gain an understanding of the behaviour of children in response to different learning settings.

Second or third-year students will also have the opportunity to embark on a two-week Global Education Trip (GeT) that will provide a first-hand look at the early childhood education centres around the world, including Australia, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

In the third year, you will get to choose from two exciting tracks.

Early Childhood Teaching Track

This track will set you in good stead to become a skillful early childhood educator. As part of the national Skills Future initiative, you will also embark on an Enhanced Internship programme. The programme will feature a structured training stint in a pre-school setting, giving you more opportunities for interaction and learning experiences with the placement centre and its children.

What's more, the CPEE diploma is a professonal qualification recognized by ECDA. This means you are qualified to teach in any pre-school in Singapore!

Equipped with a Diploma in CPEE, you will be ready to work as an early childhood professional. But that's not all that we offer. While working or teaching, choose to deepen your skills with your Academy for Early Childhood Education (ACE), which offers a suite of Continuing Education and Training (CET) programmes including pedagogy, languages, early years care, special needs and leadership, to support your professional development in this field.

Eligible students may also apply for training awards offered by the Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA) and the Social Service Awards (SSA) offered by the National Council of Social Service (NCSS) of up to $40,000. The award offers you an $800 monthly allowance, full course fee sponsorship, professional development funding, and a one-off grant of $1,050 for study-related expenses.

Careers

With the CPEE diploma, you can become an early childhood educator or an early intervention teacher and work with children with special needs.
