Our BSc Economics and Social Policy with Foundation Year allows you to study a wide range of economic, social, political and geographical theories while learning how to apply them to contemporary policy issues. This course offers a well-integrated interdisciplinary core, but with scope to specialise as you progress through your studies, with modules taught across four departments. The course will help you to address important issues in areas including: - income distribution - different economic and political systems and how they affect economic and social outcomes - the role of gender and race in economic, political and social systems. Your foundation year studies will fully prepare you for undergraduate study. This route is ideal if you are returning to study after a gap, if you have not previously studied economics, or if you did not achieve the grades you needed for a place on BSc Economics and Social Policy. The course has a common Year 1 with BSc Economics. As the course proceeds, you can choose greater specialisation in economics or other disciplines as you wish. Our students go on to build successful careers with a variety of employers in a range of sectors, including government departments, the Bank of England, UK regulatory bodies, commercial banks, local government, social services and teaching. Upon successful completion of the Foundation Year, you will automatically progress onto our three-year, full-time, evening study BSc Economics and Social Policy.We also offer part-time Foundation Year degrees which allow you to spread out your Foundation Year studies over two years. As the 'Foundation Year' is made up of 120 credits, as a part-time student you can take 60 credits in each of your first and second years before starting the main four-year BSc Economics and Social Policy.
