You must have evidence of ability in one of your chosen languages (from French, German, Italian or Spanish). You might have either an A-level (with at least grade B) or GCSE (with at least grade 7 or grade A) in your chosen language. We will also consider other evidence of language ability from outside your academic studies or other proficiency tests for example DELF, Goethe-Zertifikat, CELI, DELE and many more. Please contact the Admissions Office for further information (email ug.applicants@sussex.ac.uk).If you are applying without a formal language qualification, but otherwise have a strong UCAS application, we will normally ask you to submit evidence of your language proficiency as part of our selection process. You might, for example, be asked to provide a piece of writing in your target language and/or attend an interview (either in person, or online using Skype, Zoom, or similar) to evaluate your language level.Your second language (from French, German, Italian, Spanish, Arabic or Mandarin) can be taken from beginner level. Please note. You cannot study your own first language within our Languages and Intercultural Studies degree. Successful applicants will need to study languages other than their own first language. For students whose first language is not English, this means English can be one of your chosen languages.
