This course provides the opportunity to gain the qualifications, knowledge and experience needed for a career in the ever expanding Electrical Industry. This is now the only direct route to becoming a qualified electrician. If you are interested in training to become an Electrician and look forward to the challenge of work, but want to learn in a practical way, then this course is for you. An Advanced Apprenticeship is a way for you to acquire the skills required to become a fully-qualified Electrician. This course is designed by employers for employers - so you can be sure you would be gaining the skills the industry demands. You must be employed to be accepted for this qualification, as the practical element is to be assessed at your workplace.

This course will include 9 Practical and Theory Units: 301 - Understanding Health and Safety legislation, practices and procedures (Installing and maintaining electrotechnical systems and equipment; 302 - Understanding environmental legislation, working practices and the principles of environmental technology systems; 303 - Understanding the practices and procedures for overseeing and organising the work environment (Electrical Installation); 304 - Understanding the principles of planning and selection for the installation of electrotechnical equipment and systems in buildings, structures and the environment.

305 - Understanding the practices and procedures for the preparation and installation of wiring systems and electrotechnical equipment in buildings, structures and the environment; 306 - Understanding the principles, practices and legislation for the termination and connection of conductors, cables and cords in electrical systems; 307 - Understanding principles, practices and legislation for the inspection, testing, commissioning and certification of electrotechnical systems and equipment in buildings, structures and the environment; 308 - Understanding the principles, practices and legislation for diagnosing and correcting electrical faults in electrotechnical systems and equipment in buildings, structures and the environment; 309 - Understanding the electrical principles associated with the design, building, installation and maintenance of electrical equipment and systems. The course also includes Performance units.

The course is assessed through external City and Guilds. There will be on-line examinations and internally assessed written assignments, practical assessments and written exams. After this, you can progress to a higher level of NVQ Training, including management; progress to University or City and Guilds 2394 and 2395 Initial Verification and Periodic Inspection and Testing of Electrical Installations.
