The History major is designed to expand your knowledge about the past, improve your ability to think logically and critically, and sharpen your powers of written and oral expression. History provides a rich background for learning abroad, studying languages, government, law, medicine, and beyond, and History majors at CSU come out with a well-rounded education that opens doors in almost any career field.?
CONCENTRATIONS
A concentration allows you to specialize in a certain area within your major, offering a depth of information and hands-on experiences that you may not otherwise get. Many students in this major will concentrate in one area to work in a specific field after college, as well as find mentors and internships before they even graduate.
DIGITAL AND PUBLIC HISTORY
Discover and use emerging digital research tools and learn how historians inform and engage the public in museums, documentaries, podcasts, and more. This concentration requires an internship.
GENERAL HISTORY
Focus on specific time periods or geographical regions and explore historical themes such as race and gender, humans and the environment, frontiers and borderlands, and empire and revolution.
LANGUAGE
Focus on historical themes in regions that share a language and other cultural background.
SOCIAL AND BEHAVIORAL SCIENCES
The Social and Behavioral Sciences concentration is intended to facilitate the timely graduation of History majors who decide to transition from the Social Studies Teaching concentration to another concentration in their third or fourth year of study at CSU.
SOCIAL STUDIES TEACHING
The Social Studies Teaching concentration is for students who plan to teach in middle school, junior high, or high school.
SOME CAREER OPTIONS
With your degree, you’ll have options in public history, museums, archives, historic preservation and cultural resources management, the National Park Service and Forest Service, education, public services and much more. You’ll have options for internships in many of these fields to help you explore your career interests.
