The Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene requires two years of liberal arts study, with a minimum of 60 semester hours, followed by two years of study focusing on basic and dental sciences, dental hygiene science and theory, community health and pre-clinical and clinical experiences. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates are eligible for national, regional and state board licensing examinations. Classes enter once each year in the fall semester.

Admission to a VCU undergraduate degree program requires graduation from a secondary school or the equivalent (lyceum, senior middle school, university preparatory school, completion of GCSE exams, Standard 12 graduation, etc.), which typically consists of at least 12 years beyond kindergarten.
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): 70 IBT for undergraduates
International English Language Testing System (IELTS): 6.0 for undergraduates
Pearson Test of English: 53 for undergraduates
SAT: Score of at least 22 on the Reading test.
ACT: Score of at least 16 on the English section of the test.
Duolingo Test Score: Score minimum of 105
