Ne öğreneceğim?

Family and Consumer Science prepare individuals for personal and family life across the life span as they merge the challenges of living and working in a diverse, global society. Focus is on families, work, and their subsequent interrelations. Abundant opportunities are provided for students to develop the knowledge, skill, attitude, and behaviours for:

Strengthening the well-being of individuals and families

Becoming responsible citizens and leaders

Promoting optimal nutrition and wellness

Managing resources to meet material needs

Balancing personal, home, family, and work lives

Addressing problems in diverse family, community, and work environments

Majors have a choice of three different tracks. Students choosing the Consumer Affairs track study family financial decisions, financial counselling and the role of the consumer in the economy and select a minor. Students prepare for careers in financial counselling, business consumer liaisons, consumer advocates, or government agency employees. In the Family and Consumer Science track, students take courses from all areas of Family and Consumer Sciences and select a minor. Graduates seek employment in business, the extension service, and community agencies. The teacher certification option, approved by the Texas Education Agency, certifies graduates to teach Family and Consumer Science in 6-12th grades.
