Program Description

Fluency in a second language like Spanish will put you a step ahead in today’s culturally diverse world. In CMU’s Spanish program, you’ll go beyond linguistics with literature and cultural studies courses. You can even immerse yourself in Spanish culture through study abroad. Spanish major leads to careers such as teaching, translation, social services, media and international business.

The Spanish Program at CMU offers courses at all levels of Spanish. It is supported by a high tech audio/visual/ digital computer lab, study abroad programs in Latin America countries and in Spain, as well as several student cultural activities, and a professional and dedicate faculty.

Why Study Spanish?

Spanish is the official language in more than 20 countries; it is spoken throughout most of Latin America and, besides Spain, it is also spoken in Equatorial Guinee in Africa.

Spanish is the second most widely spoken language in the world. The study of Spanish-speaking cultures helps students better understanding the historical and cultural contexts that form part of today's world.

Students must have attended all secondary and post-secondary institutions.

Uluslararası öğrenciler için

Students are required to complete all secondary and post-secondary institutions.

They must demonstrate a proficiency in English by one of the following methods:

  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (minimum score of 550 PBT, 213 CBT, or 79 IBT)
  • International English Language Testing System (minimum score of 6.5)
  • Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (minimum score of 77)
  • Pearson Test of English (minimum score of 53)
  • ELS Language Center Program: Completion of Level 112

Students competing in intercollegiate athletics must submit a qualifying ACT or SAT score to meet NCAA eligibility requirements. Apply by May 15 if you are beginning classes in the fall semester. Apply by October 1 to begin classes in the spring semester.
