Why is the School of Management a great place to invest your time, money and energy?

Information technology continues to be an important and growing part of business strategy, and individuals with a combination of business and technical knowledge will play a central role in launching and managing contemporary business systems. This combination of business knowledge and of science in Information Technology and Management (BS in IT&M) is an innovative curriculum that develops proficiency in both of these essential areas. The strong management component of the curriculum is a key differentiator of the BS in IT&M degree. The IT&M degree draws on the Association for Computing Machinery’s description of the BS in Information Technology and extends that definition to include a strong managerial component. As a graduate of the BS in IT&M degree, you will be able to analyze technical business problems and identify the information technology requirements appropriate for the business arena and end users. You will also be able to communicate effectively with a range of audiences, and function effectively on teams to accomplish business goals making you highly marketable.

Merge business and technology

Our innovative curriculum is one of the few nationally — and the only undergraduate program in the State University of New York (SUNY) system — that focuses on both technical and business skills. You will receive practical programming experience while developing critical soft skills through the curriculum’s strong management component and learn how to leverage technology to deliver results.

Gain the tools to:

Propose and create IT solutions with new applications.
Manage databases and employ data modeling techniques to analyze information, make decisions and add value.
Identify, evaluate and use emerging technologies to realize business opportunities.
Communicate and present clearly and concisely to a wide audience.
Be an effective project manager, collaborative team member and strong leader.

Career Success

Knowing how to use technology to solve problems and drive organizations forward will be critical for success in any sector — from sales and operations to health care, finance and beyond.

With a bachelor’s degree in information technology and management, you will be qualified for a range of in-demand positions at the intersection of business and IT:

Computer and information systems manager
Computer systems analyst
Information security analyst

Admission to UB’s freshman class is selective and is based in part on the quality of your secondary school academic record and the number of spaces available in the class. You should feel confident applying to UB if you have an above-average academic record and have taken challenging courses in high school to help prepare you to be successful at university. UB uses a 4.0 grading scale and we expect students applying here to have the equivalent of a 3.0 on that scale. That is the same as a grade of B or 83 on a 100-point scale. Our admissions counselors are experts in the many education systems around the world. They know how to compare your country’s grading scale to the one we use here at UB.
