The dual Master of Science Nursing (MSN) in the field of nursing leadership and MPH@GW degree program offers a unique opportunity for nursing students who wish to supplement their nursing education with a public health focus. The 60-credit program combines coursework from both nursing and public health degree requirements. The dual program provides nurses with the skills needed to develop health initiatives and improve wellness across populations. Such a program is essential to improving the social determinants of health for populations.
The MSN curriculum sharpens future nursing leaders’ skills to implement improvements in the healthcare system and healthcare policies. The MPH curriculum provides students with the necessary skills to be leaders in the design of population and community health programs in the United States and globally. Public health coursework in the MPH program ensures students can assess and apply public health analytic and diagnostic tools from the unique perspective of nurse leaders, allowing them to better identify factors that influence community health.
Students who complete all requirements for the MSN before completing those for the MPH may petition to receive the MSN first.
