Our Master’s of Science (MS) in Economics program is well-suited for students who want to prepare for a career where advanced and quantitatively rigorous economics training is required or beneficial but a Ph.D. is not required, or who want to prepare for a Ph.D. program. We emphasize econometric training more than similar programs at other universities. Strong quantitative skills and mastery of microeconomic and macroeconomic theory are becoming common requirements for current economics employment opportunities and Ph.D. programs. UMaine’s teaching and research strengths in economic theory and quantitative methods are well suited to helping students excel at these requirements. In fact, we hear regular feedback from employers on how well-prepared our MS students are for the rigors of quantitative analysis in government and industry.
