Ne öğreneceğim?

Geology is an interdisciplinary science that emphasizes the study of major Earth systems and how they are connected. The Department of Geology has strong research groups in paleontology (paleontology and evolutionary paleoecology; our program is ranked 6th in the nation), Quaternary geology and geomorphology (glacial geology, Quaternary geochronology, fluvial and slope processes, desert geomorphology, and tectonic geomorphology), sedimentology and stratigraphy (sequence stratigraphy, geology of shale’s, and geochemical records of Earth history), tectonics (mountain building and volcanism), environmental geology (groundwater studies and landslide and seismic hazard mitigation), and biogeochemistry and global change (carbon cycling, isotope geochemistry, and impacts of climate change).

The goal of the Department of Geology is to produce well-rounded graduate students who not only take part in advanced research, but also gain extensive field, laboratory, and teaching experience. The department and the University of Cincinnati provide financial support on an academic year and summer basis for most graduate students in the form of Teaching Assistantships, Research Assistantships, tuition scholarships, endowed fellowships, and external grants to aid students in achieving their goals.

Applicants must have: A bachelor’s degree within 5 years from a social work program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education; A 3.25 undergraduate grade point average (this is cumulative, taking into account all institutions attended); A grade of B or higher in all social work courses.

Uluslararası öğrenciler için

For our graduate programs, we welcome applications from students who hold a baccalaureate degree (or higher) from a college or university regarded as standard by a regional or general accrediting agency, and have at least a B average in undergraduate course work (or otherwise give evidence of promise that is judged satisfactory by the admitting program and the Graduate School).

Standardized Tests of English Proficiency

Most students fulfill the English requirement by taking the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), the International English Testing System (IELTS), or the PEARSON Test of English (PTE). For IELTS, an overall band score of 6.5 is sufficient for graduate admission. For PEARSON, a score of 47 is sufficient. TOEFL requirements vary based on the type of TOEFL test taken, and scores are valid for up to two years. The minimum university requirement is: 520 (paper-based test), or 190 (computer-based test), or 80 (internet-based test).

The application deadline to receive University and Departmental funding is January 15.
