The Master of Public Health (MPH) degree is designed to be an interdisciplinary, professional degree in public health. The MPH Program provides opportunities for students to obtain broad knowledge and basic skills in the core areas of public health. Students are able to acquire proficiency in one or more specialized areas through advanced coursework, and gain experience in applying advanced knowledge to the solution of actual health problems in community settings during internship training. The program is designed to be a two year program for full-time students. Part-time students can take up to 6 years to complete the program.
MPH - Environmental & Occupational Health - The MPH degree in Environmental and Occupational Health (EOH) is offered by the Department of Community, Environment and Policy. There are two tracks available for students to pursue: Environmental and Occupational Health (EOH) and Industrial Hygiene (IH).
Both tracks prepare individuals to evaluate and control health risks posed to communities and workers by chemical, biological contaminants, and physical exposures. The EOH track provides greater flexibility in selection of electives and emphasis areas, and requires 42 credit hours for completion. The IH track provides a greater focus on worker protection. Additional courses are required.
Our faculty has expertise in: occupational safety, toxicology, occupational medicine, ergonomics, epidemiology, microbiology, environmental science, environmental modeling and engineering, exposure and risk assessment. As a part of their coursework, students complete both a field-based internship and a research project. Students will work with their faculty advisor to develop their individualized plan of study to best meet their professional goals.
