The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) is a college of the University of London; it began as a small research department of the Royal Marsden Hospital in 1909. Over the course of more than a century, the institute has established itself as one of the leading independent cancer research organisations. They have two campuses: one at Chelsea and another at Sutton. The institute has a membership of approximately 150 full-time and part-time PhD and MD (Res) research degree and around 80 part-time taught postgraduate students. It offers the Master of Science in Oncology degree. The ICR undertakes research on different types of cancer, from breast and prostate to rarer diseases such as rhabdomyosarcoma.
