The Church College of Hawaii, which began offering classes in 1955, became Brigham Young University – Hawaii Campus after a public announcement in 1974. The private, undergraduate university, which has some 2,400 students on campus, is located in the community of Laie on the north shore of the island of Oahu. The University offers undergraduate degrees in Accounting, Art Education, Biochemistry, Biology, Business Education, Chemistry Education, Computer Science, Elementary and Special Education among others.
