Course details
This Combined Bachelor's and Master's (CBM) is a four-year accelerated program for those with an ATAR of 90 or above. Over the first three years, you’ll complete your selected extended major in Molecular Life Sciences or Plant Biology, and some units from the Master of Biotechnology. You can then choose to exit after three years with an Advanced Bachelor's Degree in Molecular Sciences, or continue with the Master of Biotechnology and be awarded a Bachelor of Molecular Sciences and a Master of Biotechnology at the end of the four years.
About the course
By completing this Combined Bachelor's and Master's course you will graduate with both a Bachelor of Molecular Sciences and a Master of Biotechnology.
In your first three years, you will complete your selected extended major in Molecular Life Sciences or Plant Biology. You will develop an understanding of biological function at the molecular level and how this knowledge integrates into an understanding of how individual cells and entire organisms function. Plant Biology will allow you to apply a combination of scientific knowledge from botany, molecular sciences and genetics, working on applications to real-world problems such as how plants adapt to climate change impacts and how to produce healthier and more sustainable foods for the future. In Molecular Life Sciences, emphasis is placed on developing and practising the laboratory skills and technologies of cutting-edge molecular life sciences. Both theoretical and practical information is presented in the contexts of health sciences and agriculture. During this time, you will also undertake a semester of postgraduate study.
You will then complete a final year of postgraduate study in the Master of Biotechnology where you have the option to specialise in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Genetics and Genomics, Synthetic Biology, Environmental and Agricultural Biotechnology or AQUA-tech, in combination with skills in entrepreneurship and commercialisation.
