Master of Teaching (Secondary Education) - First Teaching Area

The Master of Teaching is designed for people seeking to obtain an initial teacher education qualification in order to register as a teacher in Australia and/or in a country that recognises Australian teaching qualifications. The course may also be suitable for qualified teachers wishing to gain an additional formal qualification (if needed) to convert to either Early Childhood, Primary or Secondary Education. In the Master of Teaching you will gain advanced critical skills, knowledge and understanding concerning best practice in education, to meet the needs of today’s learners. You will also have opportunities to undertake professional experience, culminating in a professional placement during your final year of study.This course is recognised nationally as an initial pre-service teaching qualification. Initial Teacher Education courses in Australia are accredited by the relevant authority in the state or territory in which the institution providing the qualification is based.Accordingly, the Master of Teaching course provided by Curtin University is fully accredited by the Teachers’ Registration Board of WA (TRBWA) and graduates of the course are able to register as practising teachers with the registration body in their home state or territory, based on the course accreditation provided by the TRBWA. This stream has a focus on curriculum and pedagogical studies, providing further opportunities for students to apply discipline-specific knowledge from their First Teaching Area in the secondary education context. It is available to students who are offered a First Teaching Area Only based on their application to the degree.
