This four-year programme, comprising a blend of theoretical and practical work, ensures that you’re career-ready upon graduation. You’ll pursue one of the nine specialisations available at our country’s leading Engineering faculty.

Compulsory BE(Hons) degree components

You must complete several compulsory components in order to complete our Bachelor of Engineering (Honours).

This structure is purpose-built to ensure the quality of our degree and to help us assess our students’ capabilities so we can provide the appropriate support where necessary.

Part I: Your common year

Part I of our BE(Hons) is a common core year, so you and your peers will be undertaking a similar curriculum designed to expose you to all nine of our specialisations. You'll study a broad base of engineering and professional fundamentals, such as engineering design, mathematical modelling, and software development.

All BE(Hons) conjoint students are expected to follow the following Part I structure:

Semester One

ENGGEN 121 - Engineering Mechanics (15 points)

ENGGEN 140 - Energy and Society (15 points)

ENGSCI 111 - Mathematical Modelling 1 (15 points)

Semester Two

CHEMMAT 121 - Materials Science (15 points)

ELECTENG 101 - Electrical and Digital Systems (15 points)

ENGGEN 131 - Engineering Computation and Software Development (15 points)

Semester One or Two

ENGGEN 115 - Principles of Engineering Design (15 points)

ENGGEN 199 - English Language Competency (no credit)

ACADINT A01 - Academic Integrity Course (no credit)

General Education (15 points)

Your specialisation, personal interests and chosen electives can impact what you pursue. With quantitative, problem-solving, communication and technical skills, you’ll easily adapt to the technologically-driven nature of many industries. All our specialisations are accredited by Engineering New Zealand, a signatory to the Washington Accord, making our BE(Hons) a recognised engineering qualification in many countries.

Applicant must have secondary school qualification or equivalent; USA Advanced Placement Exams (AP): 8 (Scores are calculated as an aggregate across all AP exams (minimum of 2 exams and a maximum of 4). Minimum grade of 3 is required in each exam. Results must be US College Board examined and certified. To be considered for entry, applicants must submit AP exam results and a High School Diploma with transcripts from a United States regionally accredited high school with above average grades.)

Secondary school qualifications

You need to have one of the following:

International Baccalaureate Diploma with a minimum total score of 24.

General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level. You must have completed a minimum of three A-Level subjects.

Cambridge International Examinations (CIE). You must have completed a minimum of three A-level subjects.

GCE ‘A’ Level requirements apply to ‘A’ Level qualifications examined by bodies such as AQA, OCR, Edexcel, WJEC, CCEA and Pearson Education Limited taken outside of New Zealand.

IELTS (Academic): Overall score of 6.5 and no bands below 6.0; Internet-based TOEFL (iBT): Overall score of 90 and written score of 21; Paper-based TOEFL: Overall score of 68 and a writing score of 21; Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) or Cambridge English Proficiency (CPE): Overall score of 176 and no bands below 169; Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic: Overall score of 58 and no PTE Communicative score below 50; Foundation Certificate in English for Academic Purposes (FCertEAP): Grade of B-; Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB): 85.
