Secure your future in the construction sector by becoming a plumber, gasfitter or drainlayer. You’ll be in hot demand, the money is great, and our pre-apprenticeship programme is your perfect way in.

Our practical, hands-on training will give you the knowledge and the skills you need to start your career in this lucrative, booming sector. You’ll graduate with hard skills equivalent to a first year apprentice, plus we’ll give your numeracy and literacy skills a big boost.

You will learn:

Health and safety in the workplace, including first aid and emergency procedures

Working on plans and specifications; meeting regulations and codes of practice

Practical skills and theory application for water systems, sheet metal and roofing materials, sanitation, cold and hot water supply, soldering, welding and brazing

Installation of pipes and fittings for water supply, gas and other heating

Theory and principles of gas combustion to domestic installations

Integrating plumbing and gasfitting services into a building structure to meet customer requirements

Hold NCEA Level 1 in Maths, English, or equivalent, or have completed the Vocational Pathway in Construction and Infrastructure (Level 2) or equivalent.

Meet the minimum requirements of the NZMA Entry Assessment

Have sufficient competence in the English language to undertake this programme which is taught and assessed in English.

Must be physically able to complete the practical aspects of the programme by being able to work effectively, efficiently and safely in a simulated work environment which may involve working safely at heights and in confined spaces.
