Lamar University's Bachelor of Arts in History with a teaching certification is for students wanting to teach history and/or social studies in grades 7-12. This degree plan is similar to the B.A. in History program except that education coursework is introduced in the student's third and fourth year to prepare them to be a professional educator. There's also a B.A. in Applied History offered at LU. This program allows you to discover trends and patterns as you explore historical development from pre-history to the present. You will develop your skills in critical thinking, research, writing, argumentation and documentation and convey your knowledge to younger generations. To become a certified teacher in Texas, you must complete an undergraduate degree, pass state exams in both a subject area and in pedagogy and must comply with other state requirements.
