Civil engineering students are interested in how buildings are designed, how they are built, and how they withstand the forces of nature. They are concerned about the environment and how to provide clean water and improve air quality. They want to be part of the solution for traffic congestion and improve how to move people and goods locally, nationally, and globally. They want to better protect people, their belongings, their homes and businesses from natural disasters and help to create a sustainable and resilient future through creative and technical solutions.The educational objectives of the University of Alabama’s Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCivE) program are to have graduates who, within a few years of graduation, are in demand and lead fulfilling professional careers, in their chosen area of professional practice, through their demonstrated abilities to:Apply foundational knowledge of mathematics, science, humanities, and social sciencesSynthesize technical knowledge of engineering analysis and design to identify, formulate, and solve problems andEmploy their professional practice skills.

Students graduating from US high schools must meet high school GPA, performance in core subjects, academic honours, and standardized test scores. Students graduating from Schools Outside the US: GPA will be calculated on all coursework, not just core subjects. UA considers applicants with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for admission. International applicants must submit an official qualifying English Proficiency score for one of the following: TOEFL iBT score of 79 and above; TOEFL paper-based score of 550 and above; TOEFL Essentials score of 8.5 and above; IELTS score of 6.0 or above; Pearsons Test of English score of 54 or above; Duolingo English Test score: 51 or above (test dates before July 15, 2019); 110 or above (test dates after July 15, 2019). Application Priority Deadlines: Fall Semester: January 15; Spring Semester: November 1; Summer Semester: January 15.
