The Ball State Department of Biology offers two paths for our master’s degree in biology depending on your academic and professional interests.Students pursuing a master of arts (MA) in biology will complete a creative project, research paper or other significant project of their design instead of writing and defending a thesis. This degree is intended to prepare students for careers in biomedical laboratories, natural resource management agencies, scientific supply firms, environmental consulting firms, scientific publishing or other careers, although students can choose to continue their education as well.

To be eligible for regular admission for a licensure, graduate certificate, or master's degree program, you must meet one of the criteria below - earned a minimum of a 2.75 GPA from your undergraduate degree-granting institution. Earned at least 9 graduate credit hours with a minimum of a 3.0 GPA. Have a conferred master's or doctoral degree from an institution recognized by an USDE accrediting association.

Students must have a bachelors degree from an institution recognized by a regional accrediting association.

Students must have .75 GPA from the undergraduate degree-granting institution
