The Physics MS program is designed to give a fundamental theoretical background beyond that of undergraduate level and some research experience, if desired. The MS degree can be obtained with or without a thesis. The thesis will be assessed by 3 faculty, including the research adviser. Given that the path to a MS degree with a thesis involves original research with a faculty adviser, it is important students wishing to complete a MS degree in 2 years understand the accelerated pace at which they will have to work. To complete an MS thesis in 2 years, the student should identify a thesis by the end of the fall semester of their first year and begin research in the following spring semester of their first year.

| You must have a bachelor's degree from a properly recognized institution. The minimum cumulative grade-point average (GPA) is 2.75 on a 4.0 scale. Some programs have higher minimum GPA requirements. Applicants must submit GRE scores, three letters of recommendation, and a statement of purpose. |
