Academic excellence
The intention of the Scholarship is to encourage and support academically excellent students to undertake full or part-time doctoral study on a pre-determined topic that falls within one or more of the four Strategic Research Themes of the University of Auckland Business School: productivity and sustainability, innovation and value creation, leadership and governance and internationalisation.
Up to five Scholarships will be awarded annually for a period of up to 36 months, and will comprise a stipend of up to NZ $34,569 per annum in 2025, with an annual CPI adjustment to the stipend value for awardees enrolled in a PhD in the University of Auckland Business School. In addition, the Student Services Fee and compulsory tuition fees for
prescribed study in the PhD will be covered for up to 36 months FTE for domestic and international awardees who are eligible to study under the domestic fees policy. The single student Health Insurance compulsory charge (as detailed on the tuition fees invoice) is also covered for the duration of the Scholarship for international students. Part-time students will be paid pro-rata for up to 72 months.
Students will be considered for the award of He Manga Tauhokohoko | University of Auckland Business School Dean’s Doctoral Scholarship at the time of application for admission to their first doctorate, a PhD degree in the University of Auckland Business School.

The basis of selection will be academic merit, the quality and nature of the research proposal, and the faculty’s strategic objectives and associated selection criteria as specified on their public website. Matters that may be considered in relation to academic merit include, but are not limited to, academic record, standing of awarding institution, academic references, CV and research and publication record.
The Scholarship will be awarded by the University of Auckland Council upon the recommendation of a Selection Committee comprising the Dean of the Business School (or nominee), the Associate Dean (Postgraduate Research) (or nominee) and the Associate Dean (Research) (or nominee).
