Founded in 1985, Northern School of Contemporary Dance (NSCD) was the first conservatoire dance school within the public sector in the UK. Since its inception, NSCD has produced some of the UK’s leading contemporary dance artists including Tom Roden, Akram Khan, Benji Reid and Fleur Darkin. Ever since the school moved into its permanent home in 1987, it has grown into one of the UK’s leading dance training institutions. NSCD wants to encourage and celebrate a student body that not only engages in knowledge exchange but also works collaboratively to develop a challenging body of work that provides creative solutions. The school’s approach to pedagogy aims to nurture creative and academic excellence and ensure that innovation and curiosity sit at the heart of all the support and care provided to students.
