The Art History and Theory major locates the study of art in a range of historical, social, cultural and political contexts. Building on a foundation of art history’s principal themes students have the opportunity to focus on a variety of subjects including Australian, Asian and International art, historic and contemporary. The major also offers a range of courses focussing on digital media, craft and design. Students develop the analytical skills necessary for critically evaluating images and objects and the ability to communicate effectively about works in different media to specialist audiences using professional conventions.Learning Outcomesidentify key movements art and design, describe their development, evolution and interrelationshipsrecognise and reflect on the practices, languages, forms, materials, technologies and techniques used throughout history in art and designanalyse the social, cultural, ethical context of historic and contemporary art and design andinterpret, communicate and present ideas, problems and arguments about art and design in modes suited to a range of audiences.
