The Doctor of Creative Arts aims to provide professional artists with recognition of both their practice and the contribution they make to professional and scholarly knowledge.
Candidates are required to undertake the development of a body of original creative work within their chosen discipline. This must be supported by a written exegesis explaining the contextual and theoretical underpinning of the creative work.
The type of creative work eligible for submission covers a range of discipline areas including: Communication; Dance; Electronic arts; Music and sound arts; Theatre; Visual arts; Writing.
You will be expected to participate in research training and development activities, contribute to the research culture at Western, and maintain a professional profile of high standard during your candidature.
As part of your research training, you will also be encouraged to publish or present your work to the public and contribute to policy and planning debates in your area of expertise.

An applicant for a PhD program must either hold: A Master’s degree by research, or A Bachelor (Hons) degree with Class 1 or Class 2 division 1 honours, or A demonstrated capacity for research in a discipline deemed to be acceptable to the university.
English Language Requirements:
IELTS: 6.5 overall score (min 6.0 in each subtest); TOEFL internet-based score of 82: Writing 21, Speaking 18, Reading 13, Listening 13; Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE): 58 overall; No communication skills less than 50.
