It focuses on how these chemicals are made, how they work in the body, and how they can help treat or prevent diseases. Scientists in pharmaceutical chemistry work to design new drugs, test them for safety, and make sure they are effective in treating health problems. As a student in the Pharmaceutical Chemistry program, you’ll gain a comprehensive understanding of drug structure, property and mode of action. In the first two years of the program, you’ll gain a strong foundation in the basic principles of chemistry. You’ll then use this knowledge in the final two years to gain a deep understanding of subjects such as medicinal chemistry, biochemical toxicology, drug design and development, pharmacology, and many more.
