Healthcare is critical for the sustainability of society and is one of the world’s largest industries. This specialist master's offers a comprehensive, interdisciplinary approach to planning, managing and designing healthcare facilities to meet the needs of a growing population. Throughout the year, you’ll delve into the challenges facing healthcare real estate provision and operation, and gain a deep understanding of global healthcare policies, service delivery systems and cultural perspectives. The course covers the interrelated aspects of creating, renovating and overseeing healthcare environments, including the many stages of decision making and stakeholder relevance. You'll explore topics across primary care, hospitals and specialist facilities, long-term care, systems and technologies, digitalisation, real estate and finance – and hone key problem-solving and communication skills along the way. A key component of the course is working on real-world scenarios in collaboration with the NHS, healthcare trusts and architecture and planning companies – to deepen your knowledge and prepare you for the challenges of the field. Working with UCL’s well-regarded academics, you’ll tailor your learning to your interests and future career goals, build your network within and beyond the university, and gain the confidence to succeed as an effective collaborator and decision maker in this complex area. This course is for students who want to focus their career on improving or innovating healthcare facilities, whether in the area of healthcare planning, architecture, engineering, real estate, facilities management or construction. This programme is also available on a modular (flexible) basis, with a duration of 5 calendar years.

As the programme is designed to enhance the knowledge base of practitioners in healthcare it is desirable for candidates to have some knowledge, demonstrable competence, and a skill set related to healthcare practice, policy, A second acceptable qualification is a second-class Bachelor's degree or lower, with substantial knowledge, demonstrable competence, and a skill set related to management, policy, investment, or design practice in healthcare investment, design, or management, in addition to their academic qualification.
