If you work in a school or other education setting and want to build on your existing qualifications and experience, this one-year Top-Up degree provides an opportunity to achieve a full Level 6 qualification while continuing to develop professionally.Learning and Teaching (Top-Up) BA (Hons) is designed for teaching assistants, unqualified teachers and those in similar roles who want to deepen their understanding of teaching, learning and educational practice. Building on your prior study and workplace experience, the course encourages you to explore wider educational perspectives and engage critically with some of the key issues shaping education today.A major strength of the programme is its flexibility. Designed to fit around professional commitments, the course is normally taught on one day per week, allowing you to continue working while studying towards a full honours degree. This enables you to apply ideas directly to your own educational setting while reflecting on and developing your professional practice.Throughout the course, you'll examine a range of educational perspectives and contemporary debates, developing a greater understanding of teaching, learning, culture, identity, professionalism and educational practice. You'll be encouraged to critically evaluate current approaches and consider how educational environments can support learners in different contexts.The programme supports both academic and professional progression. It provides strong preparation for PGCE, Assessment Only, and other routes to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), while also supporting progression into wider careers linked to teaching, learning and educational support. Students who successfully complete the programme may also benefit from a guaranteed interview for PGCE Primary Education (5-11) (QTS), subject to terms and conditions.Assessment is coursework-based, allowing you to demonstrate your learning through assignments, projects and presentations rather than examinations.By graduation, you'll have enhanced your professional knowledge, strengthened your understanding of educational practice and achieved a BA (Hons) qualification that can support future study and career progression within education.All of your essential reading will be available from the University's Library which means that all your essential course reading materials are available for free when you start with us.If you join us, you will experience student life at the University’s new £330 million Waterside Campus.
