Research overview
Research circles

Our research is focused on a number of specialist research centres and more informal research circles. Our research culture is collaborative and democratic, drawing together doctoral researchers, staff and students to produce cutting-edge new knowledge about the Arab and Islamic worlds.

Staff and postgraduate research students are affiliated to one these clusters, sharing research findings and participating in seminars, lectures and research projects.

For all research degrees you will normally be required to have obtained or expect to obtain a first degree equivalent to at least a UK 2:1 Honours degree. You will need at least a 2:1 or its equivalent in order to be considered by any of the main funding bodies. For some programmes we also consider evidence of relevant personal, professional and educational experience. IELTS (Academic): Overall score 7.0 with a minimum score of 6.5 in the writing component and all other sections no less than 6.0. TOEFL IBT: Overall score 100 with minimum scores of 25 for writing, 21 for listening, 22 for reading and 23 for speaking.
