Through a combination of academic study and work-based learning, you'll examine the social, emotional, educational and practical factors that can influence people's lives and the services designed to support them.The course is rooted in the principles of inclusion, empowerment and social justice. You'll explore important issues, including poverty, mental health, safeguarding, youth offending and anti-discriminatory practice. By examining these challenges from multiple perspectives, you'll develop a deeper understanding of how professionals can support positive outcomes and improve quality of life.A key strength of the programme is the opportunity to gain practical experience throughout your studies. You'll undertake a placement in every year of the degree, with each placement offering a different focus and providing insight into a range of professional settings. Supported by university tutors and workplace mentors, you'll be able to apply academic learning in real-world contexts while building valuable professional skills and confidence.You'll learn from staff with expertise across childhood and youth studies, health, law, therapy, education and social care, benefiting from a multidisciplinary approach to understanding the needs of children and families. Opportunities to engage with visiting researchers, Special Interest Groups and All Party Parliamentary Groups further enhance your understanding of current issues, research and policy developments.By graduation, you'll have developed the knowledge, practical experience and critical understanding needed to support children, young people and families across a range of settings.
