The mission of the Department of Finance and Economics is to provide students the ability to pursue learning throughout their lives, accept responsibility for their actions, and contribute to the common goals of society. Departmental programs are designed to develop informed citizens capable of thinking critically and succeeding in a highly-complex, interdependent, Globally diverse society. Ideally, graduates will successfully compete for employment in both the public and private sectors and for entrance to high-quality graduate education.Economics studies the behavior of consumers, producers and governments. The department's introductory courses meet the need for basic economic and legal understanding in a complex modern society. Upper-division economics and business law courses build upon this foundation to provide students a comprehensive training in modern economic theory and empirical techniques. We offer elective courses on environmental economics, sports economics, international trade, money and banking, econometrics, and many more. The B.B.A. in Economics is a business degree and prepares students better for career paths in financial and non-financial industries. The B.A. in Economics is a liberal arts degree which provides a broader set of skills and graduates follow careers in government, industry, law and teaching.
