Our curriculum explores both historical and contemporary applications of fine art printmaking. Students are encouraged to focus not only on the image itself, but also how it communicates in the context of its structure and presentation.Print & Narrative Forms include experimental courses that encourage interdisciplinary work, community projects and collaborative research. The department provides the facilities and technology for a complete studio experience with courses in intaglio, lithography, monotype, collagraph, relief, letterpress, screenprint, photo and digital print processes, artists’ books and combinations of print and non-print methods. Emphasis is placed on both traditional and exploratory techniques. All students are encouraged to broaden their education and artistic growth by attending conferences and outside workshops, participating in print exchanges with other universities and organizations, and exhibiting work on and off campus. Graduating students are prepared to pursue graduate school and/or work as an independent artist or illustrator or undertake printer training in a specialized program. We’ve also been co-hosts to the Southern Graphics Council International Conference with the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD).
