A freshman applicant is defined as an individual who has completed or will complete a high school degree or its equivalent and has fewer than 12 transferrable college credit hours. The admission requirements for freshman applicants are as follows: Roosevelt requires applicants to attain a cumulative unweighted high school GPA of 2.0 for at least 3 years of study. Self-reported information is accepted for most programs but an official transcript will be required if you are admitted to Roosevelt University. If you took dual enrollment classes at your local community college as part of your high school diploma, you will need to submit transcripts from your community college in addition to your high school transcripts. Roosevelt is test-optional. If you have taken the ACT or SAT we encourage you to send your scores, though these are not required for admission. For violin, viola, cello, and double bass, all repertoire composed unaccompanied must be played by memory. A score may be used for etudes or orchestral excerpts. It is strongly suggested that any repertoire composed with an accompaniment be performed with a piano accompaniment, but it is not required. The CCPA will not provide an accompanist, but applicants may bring their own if they wish. Violin: Undergraduate (BM): One etude or caprice; one movement of a Bach Partita or Sonata for solo violin; a fast movement of a concerto. Viola: Undergraduate (BM): An etude; one movement of an unaccompanied Bach piece; a fast movement of a concerto. Cello: Two contrasting movements of the same Bach Suite; a Popper Etude; the fast movement of a concerto such as the Dvorak, Lalo, Prokofiev Sinfonia Concertante (or work of similar difficulty). Double Bass: Two solo pieces of contrasting style, preferably including a movement of unaccompanied Bach and a fast movement from a concerto or a work of similar difficulty. Two standard excerpts representing two different composers selected from the following list: Mozart: Symphony No. 35, movement 1 or 4; Mozart: Symphony No. 40, movement 1 or 4; Beethoven: Symphony No. 5, movement 3; Beethoven: Symphony No. 9, movement 4; Brahms: Symphony No. 1, movement 1 or 4; Brahms: Symphony No. 2, movement 1 or 4; Strauss: Don Juan; Strauss: Ein Heldenleben. Classical Guitar: A study by F. Sor: (Nos. 1-10, Segovia ed.); two other pieces of comparable difficulty but contrasting style. Sight reading may be included. Music Education (BM): In addition to the instrumental audition, guitar applicants must complete a short interview with the Chair of the Music Education department. Junior/Senior (BM): A study by F. Sor (Nos. 12-20, Segovia ed.); two other pieces of comparable difficulty but contrasting style. Sight reading may be included.
