The department offers a program culminating in the professional degree of Bachelor of Science in Chemistry (B.S.Ch.). This program is designed to meet the requirements of the Committee on Professional Training of the American Chemical Society, and is undertaken primarily by students who desire to go directly to positions in the chemical industry, or to enroll for postgraduate study in chemistry.University General Education Program (41 hours)See Graduation from the University link for the University General Education Program requirements.To qualify for the Bachelor of Science in Chemistry degree, the student must complete a minimum of 120 semester hours with a grade point average of at least 2.0. A minimum of 42 semester hours must be in courses from the upper division.Note: The following courses meet general education requirements as well as degree requirements for the B.S. Ch.Natural Science:CHEM 1110 - General Chemistry I Credit Hours: (3)CHEM 1111 - General Chemistry I Lab Credit Hours: (1)CHEM 1120 - General Chemistry II Credit Hours: (3)CHEM 1121 - General Chemistry II Lab Credit Hours: (1)Mathematics:MATH 1910 - Calculus I Credit Hours: (4)(These courses must be successfully completed prior to enrolling in Core Requirement courses)

All students, both freshmen and transfer, must apply online for admission as an undergraduate student.

  • Freshman admission is competitive and based upon a comprehensive review of the students academic record. The primary factors include the high school/secondary grade point average and demonstrated English proficiency.
  • Transfer admission is competitive and based upon the cumulative grade point average of all previously attended colleges/universities (international and domestic) and must be at least a 2.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale for consideration. Demonstrated English proficiency is also required of all international applicants.

Applicants should upload a copy of their unofficial international transcript or marks sheet (high school/secondary or college/university) using our secure document upload system.

All international transfer applicants must have their international documents evaluated by a US credentialing agency that holds membership with the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES).

English proficiency may be satisfied two ways:

A minimum score or greater on any of the following English language tests:

  • TOEFL - 61 on the internet-based test or 500 on the paper/pencil test
  • IELTS - 6
  • PTE - 50
  • DUOLINGO - 95
