Mathematics and statistics, together with computer science, are the foundations of data science. Wayne State's Master of Arts in Mathematical Statistics prepares students for advanced statistician work in a number of industries. Students will refine their knowledge of quantitative tools and use analysis and research to turn ideas into informed actions.The department hosts regular colloquia, seminars and lectures that allow students to network and stay connected to faculty. Each event features speakers from across the spectrum of mathematics research.Areas of faculty research activity include discriminatory analysis (pattern recognition analysis), time series analysis, non-parametric and rank order statistics, multivariate analysis, foundations of statistics and multiple decision theory.
