This course blends cutting-edge coaching science with welfare-focused training and management, helping you unlock the full potential of both horse and rider. You'll build a strong foundation in performance optimisation while gaining extensive hands-on experience coaching riders across all levels.
The foundation year entry provides an alternative route into degree-level study. It’s ideal for those who need to gain subject-specific knowledge and skills in order to progress with the full BSc qualification.
You'll develop a personal coaching philosophy grounded in reflection upon both practice and ‘self’, tailored to the needs of the equestrian athlete. You'll be optimally placed to positively influence the equine industry as equestrian coaches, with a solid underpinning in coaching theory which they can practically apply to a range of coaching scenarios.
By graduation, you’ll be equipped with the knowledge, practical skills, and industry insight to lead the way in modern equestrian coaching, shaping the future of horse-rider partnerships from grassroots to elite.
You can use all of this to evidence your coaching expertise, experience and coaching philosophy to employers when you graduate.

Applicants are required to achieve 32–48 UCAS Tariff points. This may be met through A Levels at grades EE–DD or equivalent from at least one full A Level; vocational qualifications with a grade of PPP in an Extended Diploma; an Access to Higher Education Diploma totalling 32–48 UCAS Tariff points; or an International Baccalaureate Diploma with 32–48 UCAS Tariff points, including at least one Higher subject at H3 or above. Scottish Highers are accepted with 32–48 UCAS Tariff points from at least one Higher, provided two years of study at Higher level have been completed. The Irish Leaving Certificate is accepted with 32–48 UCAS Tariff points from at least one Higher, and T Levels are accepted with an overall grade of Pass. In addition to the above, we require a minimum of five GCSEs at grade 9-4 (A*-C), to include English and Maths. We will consider equivalencies including but not limited to functional skills level 2, Irish Ordinary level, National 5s, IB standard level.
