Explore the foundations of mathematics with our IMA accredited ‘Mathematics (Pure Mathematics)’ programme, where logic and creativity combine. Develop a strong foundation in core mathematical concepts while focusing on abstract thinking and logical reasoning - primarily centred on algebraic structures. With opportunities for industry experience, dedicated professional development and employability modules, you'll graduate equipped with the practical, technical, and analytical skills that employers value. **Why choose this course?*** Top 10 in the UK for Mathematics (Guardian University Guide, 2026)* Mathematics ranked Top 10 in England for learning opportunities (NSS 2025, broad-based universities)\** Accredited by the Institute of Mathematics & its Applications* Focus on abstract thinking and logical reasoning* Be career ready by gaining transferrable, professional and employability skillsOur Mathematics (Pure Mathematics) degree integrates a thorough study of the three core disciplines-pure mathematics, applied mathematics, and statistics-with specialist final-year topics in pure mathematics. The programme also prioritises the development of problem-solving, logical reasoning, practical, and employability skills that are highly valued by employers. During your first year, you will build a strong foundation in mathematical thinking with modules in algebra, calculus, and differential equations, whilst developing your skills in data analysis using the statistical software R. You will also begin to develop key employability skills by working in teams on group projects, solving problems and communicating your findings in visual ways. \In year two, you will strengthen your knowledge in pure and applied mathematics, probability and statistics, whilst expanding your skillset by learning the programming language Python. In your final year you will study specialised modules related to pure mathematics including Group Theory, Number Theory and Cryptography. Focusing on algebraic structures, beginning with their fundamental properties and continuing to more advanced applications, you will develop your abstract thinking and logical argument.*\*We have compared the positivity ratings of all participating UK institutions using the NSS 2025 sector data to determine Keele's position relative to other broad-based universities (i.e. excluding specialist institutions and further education colleges).***About Keele**Keele University was established in 1949 by the former Vice-Chancellor of Oxford University. Founded to meet the needs of a changing world, Keele has always had a pioneering vision to be a different kind of university. We excel in both teaching and research, with some of the most satisfied students in England, and research that is changing lives for the better at a regional, national and global level. Our beautiful 600-acre campus is one of the biggest in Britain – but all the most important services and facilities are on your doorstep, with accommodation, teaching spaces, facilities including a medical centre, sports centre and pharmacy, and a range of shops, eateries and entertainment venues – including the Students’ Union – clustered around the centre.
