Surgical Sciences MSc combines surgical skills training (robotics and vascular & microsurgical, taught by specialists at The Griffin Institute), a cutting-edge research project and optional modules in applied surgical sciences. Designed to support and enhance your professional and academic development, whether you are a recent graduate or trainee surgeon, this course is for you. The MSc is suitable at any stage in your career, and you can study full-time (1 year), part-time (2 years) or flexibly (for up to 5 years). The Surgical Sciences MSc provides the opportunity for you to undertake cutting-edge research in projects worth 50 percent or 33 percent of the final degree. Using a bespoke approach whenever possible we match your speciality and career aspirations to either a laboratory group or clinical research team. The research project is complemented by three compulsory modules, each worth 15-credits (totalling 25 percent of your degree): Research Methodologies and Transferable Skills (for analytical and statistical skills). Robotics Surgical Skills (for hands-on training). Vascular and Microsurgical Skills (for hands-on training). To expand your specialist research interests and knowledge of applied surgical skills we offer nine optional modules in a range of subjects that include e.g. Transplantation Science, Nanotechnology, Tissue Engineering, Surgical Oncology or Virtual Reality in Healthcare. The optional modules, taught by leading academics and clinicians, are updated continuously to reflect pivotal changes in subject and overall training objectives to keep pace with innovations in both surgical and scientific research. You will graduate from this course better enabled to pursue your career aspirations or start / continue your training with a skill set both practical and scientific. This programme is also available on a modular (flexible) basis, with a duration of 5 calendar years.
