The master of science in veterinary preventive medicine provides the skills and experience needed for careers in public health, food safety, emerging infectious diseases, livestock health, and more. Through in-person learning or flexible online courses and tailored research opportunities, you’ll learn to apply disciplines like ecology, nutrition, genetics, and infectious disease control to complex population health challenges. With collaborative learning from faculty immersed in animal health, your experience will be immediately applicable to the workforce. Choose between a 30-credit thesis program or a 36-credit non-thesis program either in-person or online. Courses taken during your Master’s journey can be applied towards a PhD if you choose to continue your education.Learning Goals: No thesis required for coursework-based MSc degrees. Complete 36 credits: At least 19 credits from coursework. Minimum of 3 credits from a special topics course (VDPAM 5900). Special topics course involves one-on-one interaction with a graduate faculty member (usually the major professor), focusing on Veterinary Preventive Medicine. Remaining credits come from research, where students create a novel creative component based on their chosen special topic.
